The 2017 benefit for the Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti, a faith based organization headquartered in Chattanooga, will be highlighted by speaker Dorothy (Doro) Bush Koch.

Ms. Koch, who is the daughter of former President George H.W. Bush, is the author of My Father, My President: A Personal Account of the Life of George H.W. Bush. She is also the honorary chair of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.

In 2015, Ms. Koch traveled to Haiti and spent a week with CNP.
During her trip, she saw every facet of the organization while she was in Leogane, Haiti, where CNP's operation is located.

“We are honored to have Doro headline our annual event. She is very familiar with our program, and I believe people will want to hear her perspective of Haiti and our work in the country,” said Chris Devaney, executive director of CNP of Haiti.

"CNP of Haiti is focused on fighting childhood malnutrition. It was founded in 1998 and Chattanooga is the location of its U.S. headquarters. At the heart of CNP are its community health workers known as monitrices. These women work in their local communities educating mothers about proper nutrition, clean water, and hygiene. They also conduct growth monitoring and place children suffering from malnutrition in CNP’s rehabilitation program," officials said.

“These brave women, known as monitrices, are in their communities every day fighting childhood malnutrition. CNP is doing tremendous work in Haiti and their monitrices should be examples for other organizations in the world doing similar work,” said Ms. Koch.

The event, She Saves the World, which will be a celebration of its monitrices, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Stratton Hall on Thursday, May 18 in Chattanooga. Local businessman Mr. Jim Hudson will also be honored with the Heart for Haiti Award for the important work he has done in the country over the years.
