Firefighters Battle Fire At Mueller Company

  • Saturday, November 10, 2018

Firefighters battled a fire at the Mueller Company off Amnicola Highway on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire at 1401 Mueller Avenue. The firefighters were told that some workers might be trapped on the roof.

A second alarm was requested to bring in additional firefighters and equipment.

The first arriving firefighters with Quint 10 later confirmed that the workers were not trapped and had in fact got off the roof uninjured.

Battalion Chief Carlos Hampton, the incident commander, said the fire was in the roofing materials. A plant official told firefighters that employees with a subcontractor were installing a new roof. During that process, a fire broke out and the employees could not put it out. They got off the roof, sounded the fire alarm to evacuate the building, and called 911.

While some firefighters worked on the roof, other firefighters set up their fire apparatus around the building and raised their aerials to aimed their master streams at the fire on the roof. It took roughly 24 firefighters on six fire apparatus about an hour to get the blaze under control.

No injuries were reported. An estimate on the dollar loss was not available. The cause of the fire is being ruled accidental.

Chattanooga Police, Hamilton County EMS and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue also provided assistance on the scene.
