Mason Camp Hits Helton "Fraudulent Impersonation" Of Donald Trump; Helton Denies Any Involvement

  • Wednesday, August 1, 2018

On the eve of Thursday's election, House District 30 candidate Jonathan Mason said Esther Helton’s campaign "has hit a new low with a fraudulent impersonation of the president." Ms. Helton denied any involvement in the robo call.

The call included a voice sounding like Donald Trump praising Ms. Helton.

Mr. Mason said, “In a desperate act of public deception and #fakenews, my opponent Esther Helton, who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, sent out a felonious phone call horribly impersonating the President of the United States, spearheaded by her handlers to deceive the voters of District 30 into believing she has the support of our President.

"Esther Helton’s failing campaign knows no end.  She believes that the intelligent hard-working people of District 30 would fall for such an unbelievable impersonation of our President.

"If she is not willing to be honest with Republican primary voters now, how can voters trust her to be honest if elected?”

Ms. Helton said, "My campaign did not do or have any involvement with a Trump robo call. The only robo calls we have done featured my voice or that of my son, Lee Helton. As I have said in the past, we have worked hard to avoid negative politics in this race.  My campaign has knocked on nearly 4,000 doors, raised and spent our entire campaign funds on issue-oriented mail, TV and radio ads, and voter information without ever saying anything negative about my opponent.

"No one can control what outside, independent groups say in this race, and I have even condemned the third-party information that has been used in this race.  Yes, District 30 deserves better, our family and friends deserve better, and our system of government will be stronger if we work directly to engage with voters about issues, not put on a public show of gotcha politics and lies."
