Crappie Club Hosts Fishing Extravaganza For The Forgotten Child Fund

  • Thursday, September 13, 2018

The Chattanooga Crappie Club is set to host the 14th Annual Forgotten Child Fund Fishing Extravaganza on Oct. 13 at Chester Frost Park to help raise money and toys for the Forgotten Child Fund’s “Santa Train.”

The fishing extravaganza will include a crappie and a bass tournament with cash prizes, along with vendors, food, giveaways and free family-friendly activities.

All the proceeds from the event will benefit the Forgotten Child Fund and their efforts to deliver presents to families in need during the holidays. Event organizers are also asking participants and attendees to come enjoy the festivities and “Fill Up the Towboat” with unwrapped toys that will be donated to the Forgotten Child Fund’s “Santa Train.”

“This fishing tournament is all about the kids,” said Kelly Simmons, president of the Forgotten Child Fund and captain at the Chattanooga Fire Department. “This event helps us raise thousands of dollars and hundreds of toys every year to help give families in need the Christmas they truly deserve.”

The Forgotten Child Fund is a non-profit charitable organization focused on helping Chattanooga families in need since 1965, sponsored by the Chattanooga Fire Department, Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services.

Entry fee for the bass or the crappie tournament is $25 per boat plus a $5-$10 unwrapped toy per person. First place winners from the Crappie and Bass tournament will receive $1,000 in cash prizes. Second place in each tournament will receive $800 and third will receive $500, based on 100 boats entered.

This is the first year that the event will host both a bass tournament and a crappie tournament.

“We want to include all anglers of all types and skill levels and just a have a fun day full of fellowship and good fishing, all for a great cause,” said Jim Edmister, president of the Chattanooga Crappie Club.

The Chattanooga Crappie Club is a local organization focused on preserving and showcasing crappie fishing in the Tennessee Valley region hosting community tournaments and events.
