Pandering 101

  • Friday, October 18, 2019

The fourth Democratic Debate is now history. The best description of this one should be pandering, ironies and I’ve got a secret.

One definition of pandering is indulging people with something they want. That is exactly what most of the candidates were doing, pandering to the far left with promises of entitlements.

Senator Amy Klobuchar, however, got nowhere with the audience calling the Medicare-for-all scheme a “pipe dream.” It should be called “Mediocre-for-all,” a vastly expensive parody of the VA where government clerks rather than medical professionals decide your health care. Senator Warren’s plan would be a complete government takeover of health care in spite of the fact she confusingly claims people could opt out. Klobuchar may have struck out with the crowd but she’s raised a bunch of money since the debate from many others who share her doubts about Warren.

One thing we do know is Democrat’s are job creators. They often expand government creating multiple layers of useless bureaucracy with a high price to taxpayers. But we’ve seen their over regulations and high taxes dry up jobs, good paying jobs, in the private sector. And not one candidate said anything to indicate they’ve changed nor did anyone suggest anything to outdo the success of Trump’s economic policies. All they can do is promise more free stuff or to take Trump down before the election. That’s two pipe dreams Senator Klobuchar.

Among the obvious ironies is billionaire Tom Steyer, standing with millionaires Biden, Bernie and Warren berating the wealthy. Steyer joins them to advocate for a wealth tax but he’s careful not to target any particular billionaire. He and others rail against “corporations” blaming them for the gap between the one percent and rest of us. The Daily Beast revealed that Steyer claims to have divested himself from fossil fuels and then goes to to say he fails to disclose where over half his wealth is invested.

Candidate Steyer according to the Boston Globe (April 6, 2019) has pressed US Rep Richard Neal to get Trump’s tax returns. Steyer founded Need to Impeach and is delighted with the farce currently taking place in Congress but he won’t reveal what his own near billion dollar investments are. That’s not a coincidence.

So what are these candidates hiding? Why does Senator Warren refuse to say how she would pay for Mediocre-for-all? Why does Biden brush off connections with Ukraine and China and his son’s involvement? Their responses were more like I’ve Got a Secret than an honest accounting of their policies and character.
