Nathan Hawkins led a Covenant men's golf team that improved its score from day one as the Scots placed 18th overall at the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational, hosted by Oglethorpe, that concluded on Tuesday.
Hawkins finished in a tie for 41st overall in the tournament after carding a 73 in Tuesday's final round. The senior collected a pair of birdies on Tuesday to wrap up the tournament with five as he posted a two-day score of 148 (75-73).
Overall, Covenant shaved six strokes off its score from Monday's season-opening round as the Scots shot a 312 as a group.
Covenant ended the tournament with a 630 (318-312) and finished 18th in a field that included four USA South programs and some top Division III teams.
Will DeMersseman was part of that improved score group as he shot a 76 on Tuesday and concluded the tournament with a 160 (84-76). The sophomore finished strong as he made both of his birdies on the day during the final nine holes.
John Livingston ended his first collegiate tournament with a 159 (78-81) after shooting an 81 on Tuesday. Isaac Duncan registered a career-best 82 on Tuesday and finished at 171 (89-82), while Crawford Collett came up with an 85 in the final round and a 166 (81-85) for the tournament.
Hampden-Sydney, ranked 13th in the nation, pulled away for the team title as they shot a 559 (278-281) for the tournament. LaGrange's Ben Womack was the medalist after carding a 136 (69-67) over the two-day event.
Covenant will return to action on Monday, Oct. 14 in the opening round of the Piedmont Fall Invitational at the Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville, Ga.
