Woman Who Says She Was Hurt On Chattanooga Ducks Sues For $500,000

A woman who said she was hurt on the Chattanooga Ducks has sued the owners of the amphibious vehicles for $500,000.

Leann Lawson filed suit in Circuit Court in connection with an incident last June 21.

She said she was on the tour bus when the driver took it to the top of a ramp leading down to the Tennessee River. She said the driver instructed a passenger near the front of the bus to "hold on for dear life" or else she may get ejected through the windshield.

The suit says he then announced to the rest of the passengers that they had nothing to worry about because there was not enough room for them to "go nowhere."

Ms. Lawson said the driver then sped down the ramp at a high rate of speed and slammed the vehicle into the water. She said she held as tight as she could, but she was thrown from her seat and injured when it hit the water.

She said she suffered "severe bodily injuries."

The suit says the vehicles date to World War II and have seats with no seat belts, harnesses or handles.

It says the attraction advertises that the tours are appropriate for infants and the very elderly and that safety is the "number one priority."

The suit was filed by attorney Joshua Ward.
