Butch Murphey
James “Butch” Fay Murphey, 77, of Birchwood, Tennessee, passed away on September 11, 2019.
Butch retired from Norfolk Southern after 31 years of service. He was a past Master Mason of Limestone Lodge Local #176. Butch loved spending time with his family and fixing up cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Kate Murphey.
Survivors includehis beloved wife, Nanci Murphey of Birchwood; children, Joan (Jay) Cope of Soddy Daisy, Karen Murphey and Linda (Gavin) Woodall both of Cleveland, and Terry and Stormy Merriman both of Birchwood; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas “Mike” H. Murphey Jr. of Wimauma, Fl., and Frank Murphey of Social Circle, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at McInturff Cemetery.
