Re: Randy Smith: COVID And The Future Of Sports
Once again Randy Smith makes a completely unfounded statement in his column. He said the President has done absolutely nothing on the COVID crisis.
Perhaps Randy forgot he imposed travel restrictions on China early on despite being accused of xenophobia by Biden and Pelosi. Or maybe he forgot the Navy hospital ships sent to both California and New York. Governors Cuomo and Newsome (neither exactly a Trump booster) said he had given them everything they asked for. Or the emergency COVID site set up at the Javits Center in NYC that by the way was never utilized.
Now we have two promising vaccines that have surprisingly been announced after the election. The President fast tracked the development of vaccines by the drug companies. He is now working on a distribution system to prioritize shipments. Certainly credit goes to the research people at these companies, but to unquote Randy, the President surely did something to assist in the development.
Perhaps Randy should stick to his area of expertise, recreation, the subject which he majored in.

I have a lot of respect for Randy and appreciate his insight on sports related matters. However, I have to take issue with his comment “the current administration has done absolutely nothing to help” the American people during the pandemic.
Randy has to know this just isn’t true. Operation Warp Speed has assembled the greatest team in both the private and public sectors to produce badly needed PPE and at least three vaccines which are already being produced for immediate distribution.
This effort is unprecedented in its size and scope. Hopefully his words were merely out of frustration since the virus shows no signs of disappearing on its own.
