The No. 8 Lee women’s basketball team saw its fourth quarter comeback bid fall short in suffering a 66-60 loss at Alabama Huntsville to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Flames struggles began in the second quarter as they shot just 2 of 8 from the field in the second quarter and trailed 35-28 at the break. Matters would only get worse in the third period as Lee hit just 1 of 14 from the field and opened the fourth trailing 50-36.

Lee turned things around in the fourth quarter, going 11 of 21 from the field but the mountain was too tall to climb.
Haley Schubert led the Lady Flames with 13 points. The sophomore point guard also had five steals, five assists and four rebounds.  Nicky Widenski poured in 10 points and six rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Taylor Boggess also registered 10 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers.

The Lady Flames controlled the glass with 36 rebounds, 14 on the offensive side compared to 27 for the Chargers. Both teams struggled to take care of the basketball with 21 turnovers each.

Alexis Woods led UAH with 17 points while Aryn Sanders added 15 points and six rebounds. The home team finished at 48.9 percent from the field while limiting the Lady Flames to 36.4 percent shooting.

The Lady Flames fall to 25-3 on the year and 17-3 in the GSC. The Chargers improve to 18-10 and 13-7 in league play.

Despite losing 2 of 3 to close things out Lee claimed a share of the GSC Regular Season title with Union. The Bulldogs will enter as the No. 1 seed, winning the tiebreaker. The Lady Flames will be the two-seed and host Mississippi College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Walker Arena in the GSC Quarterfinals.
