Water flow at Signal Mountain
TVA officials said the Tennessee River at Chattanooga should crest just below flood stage after three days of downpours.
James Everett, manager of TVA's River Forecast Center, said the river was still rising at Chattanooga as of Friday morning.
He said it was expected to crest at 28 feet - just below the flood stage of 29 feet.
Mr.
Everett said flooding conditions are serious, however, below Chattanooga, including the Florence, Ala., area, and in West Tennessee near Savannah and on into Kentucky.
He said some sections of the Tennessee Valley got 2-3 inches of rain during the past three days. But he said others got 5-6 inches and, in isolated areas, it was almost eight inches.
Mr. Everett said there is some concern about the forecast for more rain next week, including the middle of the week.
The heavy rain has caused additional closures at the popular Riverpark.
Crews have now closed Shelter #4, as well as the Point off Lost Mound Road and the area behind Chattanooga State.
Also the Rowing Center gates are closed due to flooding extending to the Water Company.
Earlier, the Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department reported all piers, both boat ramps, the trail behind the Raceway, the Marsh overlook to the back parking lot at the Marsh and the Rowing Center Boardwalk to the Water Company were all closed due to flooding.
Granada Drive was closed until further notice due to slope failure. CDOT Engineers are on site evaluating the area. Additional details will be provided as information becomes available.
