Melvin Smith, Sr., 81, passed away on May 24, 2020.

 

He attended Howard High School and retired from the City of Chattanooga Public Works Department. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Jackie Hambright of Chattanooga, Wanda (James) Bryson, Glenarden, MD, Missy Smith, Hixson, Monty Guffey, Chattanooga, Joyce Riggs, Lavergne, Tn., Matthew Smith, Chattanooga, Melvin (Gladys) Smith, Jr. of Smithfield, Va.; sister, Helen Jackson of Converse, Tx.; aunt, Thelma Buckles, Chattanooga; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 

A public visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, from 9-11 a.m. A private funeral service will be held for the family.

 

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
