Barnes, Cecile Yvonne

Cecile Yvonne Barnes, 84, a current resident of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at her home. She was born in Athens on May 9, 1937. Cecile was of the Baptist faith. She loved to read her Bible, watch birds and grow flowers. Cecile will be remembered most of all for the love she had for her family and her Lord.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Barnes Fain; grandparents, W.C. and Lochie Barnes; and one brother, Billy Brock.

Cecile leaves behind to cherish her memory five daughters, Gail Skeen, Janice Allen (Steve), Jannett Robinson (Michael), Sandra Hall (Robert Johnson) and Sheila Carroll (Carl); one son, Dale Skeen; one sister, Nila Hicks; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A graveside service is planned for Friday, June 26 at 4 p.m. at the South Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Ted Smith officiating.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Kindred Hospice of Chattanooga and to Cecile’s caregiver, Jennifer Hammonds, for the excellent care they provided her and the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s research hospital in Cecile’s memory.
