The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga has released its 2020 Summer Food Program Sites for Hamilton, Bradley and Rhea Counties.
"When schools are out, the Y is in via so many programs," officials said. "The YMCA’s Summer Food Program helps fill the gap by providing nutritious meals and snacks to kids 18 and under at more than 2,500 locaitons across the country. One in six children in the U.S. don’t know where their next meal will come from."
Local feeding sites include the following:
• Chattanooga Summer Pickup Times & Sites;
• Bradley County Summer Food Pickup Info; and
• Rhea County Summer Food Pickup Info.
"Summer months are an especially vulnerable time for kids who rely on fee or reduced-price meals during the school year," officials said.
“Hunger has a lasting impact on the development of children,” said Laura Horne, senior program director. “Giving kids access to nutrition-filled meals allows kids to focus, learn and become empowered to reach their full potential. The Y’s Summer Food Program helps make sure kids can enjoy healthy and delicious meals and snacks all summer long.”
The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga’s recent Food & Fun program efforts were expanded to include numerous Walmart sites across the area. The Y’s food program efforts continued despite COVID-19 and recent tornado.
The program is supported by volunteers. For more information on volunteering, email Laura Horne at lhorne@ymcachattanooga.org.
