Irene Whittle James, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday evening, July 16, 2020.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great--grandmother known to all of us as Our Mum. Born on July 2, 1928, and raised in Liverpool, England, she immigrated to the States in 1954 with her husband and two daughters.

Our loving Mum now joins her family in heaven our Daddy, Harold Albert James (married 59 1/2 years), our sister, Lynn James Knowles, and grandson, James Toby King.

She also joins her mother Bessie Caton Whittle, father Arthur A. Whittle, sisters Mable, Nancy, Dorothy, Betty, Joan, Vera. Irene and her sisters were evacuated to the countryside to avoid air raids on the city as part of Operation Pied Piper during the German Blitz in WWII.

Leaving her memories behind to: daughter, Dot James King, grandson and family, Shaun and Laura King with Nathan and Jackson; son, Steve and Monica James with granddaughters, Emily and Ronnie Parker and Devon James; son, Chris and Andrea James and grandson, Colin James; beloved granddaughter, Tina Bedwell; grandson, Al Knowles with daughters Taylor, Morgan and Hannah; granddaughter, Dana and Tom Welch, Kristofer, Grayson and Katherine.

We had a hot meal on the table every night and were taught manners and love through example. Our Mum was always ready for a good laugh and a hot cup of tea. It is with a hollowness that cannot be filled that we say "See You Later Mum or TTFN - TaTa For Now.”

Visitation services will be held at the Chattanooga Funeral Home: East Chapel at 404 S. Moore Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37412, from 1–5 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.

Funeral services to be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 1 Mount Olivet Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37412, at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 20, with her grandson, Dr. Shaun M. King officiating.
