Collegedale Chosen As A 2020 TAEP Community Tree Planting Recipient

  • Tuesday, July 28, 2020

The Tennessee Urban Forestry Council announced that the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry selected Collegedale as one of its 2020 TAEP Community Tree Planting Recipients.  The city received the nearly $3,000 grant through the Urban Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program.

The grant requires a 50 percent local match that will be used to acquire and plant over 70 trees with a focus on replacing the native trees damaged or destroyed by the April 12 tornado. The species included in the grant include native hardwoods and evergreens that will become part of Collegedale’s vital tree canopy in the years to come.

The grant period extends from Nov. 1 through April 30, 2021, which corresponds with the prime tree-planting season in Tennessee.  Opportunities for volunteers will be available as the city begins to acquire trees in the coming months.
