Seven McCallie School seniors were recognized as Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. They join four other students who were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists.
The Commended Scholars placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students nationwide who entered the 2021 scholastic competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The students are:
Henry Dobson, a day student from Lookout Mountain, Ga. He is the son of William and Rachel Dobson.
Andrew Haun, a day student from Hixson. He is the son of Robert and Julie Haun.
Daniel Jeong, a day student from Lookout Mountain, Tn. He is the son of Seong-Joo Jeong and Eun Kyung Lee.
Jerick Shi, a boarding student from Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. He is the son of Yongquiang Shi and Lin Wu.
Brian Trowbridge, a boarding student from Charlotte, N.C. He is the son of Thomston and Leah Trowbridge.
Alex Whitworth, a day student from Dalton. He is the son of Chip and Micheala Whitworth.
Christopher Wiley, a day student from Chattanooga. He is the son of Ben and Marzi Wiley.
The National Merit Semifinalists, who were announced on Sept. 11, are: Giancarlo D'Agostino, a boarding student from Madison, Al/; Jiayi Li, a boarding student from Beijing, China; Caleb Olumofin, a boarding student from Pine Bluff, Ar.; and Pax Poggi, a day student from Chattanooga.
