Tuesday Night's Debate

  • Wednesday, September 30, 2020

Okay, I expected today's opinion section to be filled with the pros and cons of last night's televised presidential debate. Maybe because it's not is because people are still reeling from it. So, if you will allow me to put my two cents worth in then I would appreciate it.

I am 67 years old and have seen a lot of presidential debates, now I might not have watched the Eisenhower debates because I wanted to watch The Wonderful World of Disney or a cartoon or maybe Ed Sullivan Show. But I have seen a lot of them and lived so far through quite a few presidents. Last night was an absolute shocker, maybe that's why no one else is posting because they are in shock now.

All members of the media who commented on last night's debate were very, very disappointed and I mean all channels including Fox News, not their late night pundits, but their real journalists.

I have said in previous comments on this page before that I consider myself an independent voter and just want the person that I feel is the right man or woman for the job of presidency, senator, congressman or local council member. For instance I like Amy Coney Barrett as a Supreme Court justice. A very nice and well educated lady who believes in the Constitution. As far as having liberal versus conservative on the court the main thing is have someone who believes in the laws and rule of our land and will act on it as such.

So, last night, here it goes. Trump was a childish jerk whose purpose was to addle Biden so bad with his constant interference that he hoped Biden would bein to stutter and forget what he wanted to say. So that is Trump's way, to keep constant harassment going to befuddle his opponent. In the meantime, when it was his turn to speak, he offered nothing of substance. I think the world of Chris Wallace but he lost control of the childish behavior of Trump which I know must be embarrassing to him.

All the presidents have had words during a debate before, some cynical and some funny, but not like this. Everyone is saying that this is the worst debate in American history. While Biden tried to address the American people, Trump continued to talk over him as to drown him out. Trump offered nothing in substance except rattling on and trying to embarrass Biden. Trying to tell him he wasn't smart, tying him to leftist mobs and trying to interject about his son Hunter. Did you notice Biden never mentioned Trump's children even though now it is reported that due to his tax returns he gave his daughter $750,000 for consulting fees. It's like saying, honey what would you like for dinner tonight and she says chicken, so he says I am going to give you thousands of dollars for suggesting that as a consultation fee. She sells designer clothes but she sat at the table with the president and the Secretary of the State while talking to Kim Yong Sun.

I think of Mr. Exum and enjoy his articles tremendously but his latest article mentions the fact that Trump donated to several government agencies from his salary. You know the one he didn't support, the U.S Department of the Treasury, well maybe with $750.

So let me also say that the main thing that has drawn the world's attention is that we don't have the best candidate for either party but we can't continue with this one. And the biggest thing from last night was Trump's refusal to denounce white supremacy by saying to the Proud Boys to "Stand Back and Stand By" and don't let anyone tell me that he didn't mean what he said.

I truly want to understand Trump's appeal and as I said I have seen lots of presidents, but I have a friend who says she is getting concerned for her husband because if anyone speaks on TV against him he screams at the ceiling and throws things at the TV. This is scary people. I have heard so many untruths from people that Trump propagates unlike any president I have ever known.

The fact checkers from all networks said Trump did nothing but lie last night. And with COVID-19, you better believe it's real. He has tried to continually disprove every doctor and scientist whose experience and education in infectious diseases that doesn't downplay it as he does. He has his own expert now in Atlas who has no experience in this at all agreeing with him. It's like asking a dentist about your heart problems.

So, I suppose I have vented enough but please friends consider what you're dealing with before we go back to a civil war. You know the people of Germany liked Adolph Hitler because he brought them through a horrible recession, where you brought your paycheck home in a wheelbarrow but not enough to buy a loaf of bread and then stood by while death camps were all around them. I am a Christian and God said He picked our leaders and kings whether they were good or bad but it was His decision to fit His plan. It's possible to replace this one.

Thank you for your time.
