David Hill, a 36-year veteran of the United States Army, was the winner of the Honoring the Sacrifice 2021 Great Golf Cart Giveaway earlier this week. Mr. Hill, formerly of Ooltewah, works for TVA and currently resides in Alabama.
Mr. Hill enlisted in 1976 as a teenager and spent nine years serving as a helicopter pilot. Following his time on active duty, he spent an additional 27 years in the National Guard. He had non-combat tours to Panama and Egypt and a year combat tour in Iraq in 2008 as a Blackhawk pilot.
Mr. Hill said, “I have participated in numerous fundraisers that support veterans, such as golf tournaments, and even served on the board of directors for a few years of a group that helps veterans transition from the military into the civilian work force. Needless to say, I was surprised to hear that by participating in a fundraising raffle, I am now the proud owner of a very 'patriotic' golf cart.”
Mr. Hill bought the winning ticket at Capital Toyota on Lee Highway on the first day that tickets sales opened in early July. He was the second person to purchase a ticket in the contest, which lasted for three-and-a-half months.
According to Honoring the Sacrifice Representative Catherine Smith, “The partnerships with Club Car, Capital Toyota and US101 are critical to the success of this contest. We are grateful for their commitment to our nation’s wounded veterans and extend our congratulations to David Hill. We hope Mr. Hill has years of enjoyment from this special golf cart.”
