Covenant Volleyball Wins Two In USA South Play

 The Covenant women's volleyball team got two more conference wins at Saturday's tri-match hosted by LaGrange. 

The Scots were able to take match one over LaGrange in five sets and match two over Piedmont in straight sets.

The wins improve Covenant to 15-7 overall and 9-2 in conference play.

MATCH 1: Covenant 3, LaGrange 2
In their first match of the day, the Scots were able to take an exciting five set victory over the host Panthers.

After losing the first set by a close margin (23-25), Covenant took the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-21 to go up 2-1. 

A back and forth fourth set ended in a LaGrange win (21-25), sending the USA South matchup to a fifth and final set. 

And that's when the Scots turned up the heat and used a 9-3 run to end the fifth set and win the match, 3-2.

Covenant was led by Grace Logterman and Riley Howe, who both had 11 kills.
Logterman ended the match with a .688 hitting percentage and five blocks. 

Rachel Bartlett added 40 assists, and Anna Baldwin tallied 23 digs. 

Ariel Modeste posted 15 kills for the Panthers. Karson Troth has 14 kills and 15 digs, while Kirsten Boyd added 12 kills and 15 digs. 

The loss brought LaGrange to a 3-7 conference record and 3-14 overall. 

MATCH 2: Covenant 3, Piedmont 0
The Scots picked up right where they left off in their second conference matchup of the day, defeating Piedmont 3-0. 

Covenant dominated the offensive front, winning with scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-21.

Howe added nine kills, four blocks, and seven digs to her totals for the day. Logterman continued her stellar play, recording a .700 hitting percentage with eight kills and five blocks. Bartlett added 25 assists.

Bri King led the Lions with eight kills, while Jessica Beil added 15 digs. 

Piedmont falls to 3-7 in conference play and 3-15 overall.

Covenant will travel to Oglethorpe on Wednesday, October 20 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
