Mandates or is the word that bothers many? Let me cite just a few mandates that seem to be o.k. - Cross when red; stop at the stop signs; pay our taxes, live next door to someone, carry a gun.. O.K.. Reasonable is a good choice of words describing these o.k. mandates.
Why are they o.k? First off it might not be o.k. to cross into traffic or carry a gun shooting at people or this one: members of one political party telling the rest of us don't.
I have all my shots plus the booster. I am on Social Security and older than dirt. My wife has had cancer three times. My neighbor's granddaughter goes to school. I don't want to infect anyone nor be infected by the person or persons that say no to mandates.
We who were children during the war can remember the sacrifices we all made for the good of the country and the war effort. This disease killed nearly 800,000 people and for those that use the preface only should be taken immediately to the woodshed for a good thrashing.
What happened to the politics of lower taxes, less regulation and fiscal discipline? That party has become both the barometer and arbiter of their brand of politics which in summary is Don't.

First of all, let me say that I have had three Pfizer shots for COVID, plus my annual flu shot. I am not against vaccines at all, nor is anyone I know. And, despite what Mr. Brooks thinks, no one who represents the Republican Party has ever come out against the COVID vaccines either, to the best my knowledge.
What I and many other Americans oppose are draconian mandates which force people to choose between the shot and their jobs regardless of circumstances.
Mr. Brooks correctly points out that nearly 800,000 people have, reportedly, died while having COVID. Another very high number that he and all of the government bureaucrats seem to overlook (perhaps intentionally) is that nearly 50 million cases of COVID have been recorded in the U.S. which means that roughly 49 million folks have had COVID and recovered, which would indicate that approximately 49 million folks now have acquired immunity to COVID, not to mention millions that had COVID and were asymptomatic.
Everything I have read or heard from doctors and immunologists tells me that this affords a much better protection to a reoccurrence versus the vaccines. Anyone who has been previously diagnosed with COVID can be tested for antibodies which should then exempt them from having to submit to a redundant vaccine.
Nowhere in the federal mandate is natural acquired immunity given its rightful place in protecting the population at large. Until Biden and Fauci acknowledge acquired immunity as an alternative measure to the vaccines, I will consider the vaccine mandates a huge overreach of governmental authority.
To take this a step further, I believe that this myopic single solution approach to the pandemic is the Biden administration's attempt to distract attention away from their horrible performance thus far. Virtually everything this inept administration has done has been a detriment to the nation and the non-elite people of the country. I could enumerate all of their failures, but most folks already are aware of their disastrous policies and actions.
