Coppertone Plant At Cleveland, Tn., To Begin Ramping Down With Loss Of 134 Jobs

  • Monday, April 19, 2021

The Copperton plant at Cleveland, Tn., plans to begin ramping down, bringing the eventual loss of 134 jobs.

Beiersdorf corporation, which acquired the plant in 2019, said the plant will be completely closed by third quarter 2022.

The firm said it performed an "extensive and thorough review" of the facility.

It determined "that the costs to retrofit the Cleveland facility to the infrastructure, processing and logistics requirements of other Beiersdorf products were simply too high.

"We did not arrive at this decision lightly and wish it could be otherwise,” Alonso continued. “The plant closure is not a reflection on the hard work and dedication our Cleveland colleagues have shown since they joined the Beiersdorf family in 2019. If this were only about the excellence of our people, we would remain in Cleveland.”
