Edna Violet Stover Griffis
Edna Violet Stover Griffis, age 94, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, in a local health care facility.
She was born Aug. 17, 1926 in Suches, Ga. She was the daughter of the late Theresa Mae Anderson Stover and Sherman David Stover. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Garland Griffis; her brothers, James Stover Sidney Stover, John Stover, Sherman Stover Jr., Herman Stover and Bill Stover; and her sisters, Mary Garrett, Mattie Dailey, Ruby Nevell and Rosa Haygood.
Mrs. Griffis was a minister’s wife for over 69 years and a graduate of Lee College. She was a retired teacher from the Cleveland City School System.
She is survived by her daughter Becky Wood and her husband Ron of Georgetown, TN; her sons, Bishop David M. Griffis and his wife Judy of Dalton, GA, John G. Griffis and his wife Ramona of Sevierville, TN, and Timothy T. Griffis and his wife Robin of Pensacola, FL; her grandchildren, Jeremy D. Griffis and his wife Misty, Aubrey Jensen and her husband Patrick, Emily Griffis, Betsy Griffis, John Griffis Jr., Katie Griffis, Sean Griffis, Sarah Griffis, Ryan Wood and his wife Claire, Jared Wood and his wife Inger and Julie Shell and her husband Chad; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, M.J. Stover and his wife Grace of Dahlonega, GA; her sisters, Eva Nell Pruitt and Carolyn Ray, both of Suches, GA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held graveside at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Roland Sharp officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
