Making his first July start since dominating the competition in June and most of the Spring Months, Brandon Overton (#76) of Evans, Georgia won Sunday nights "Carolina Sizzler" Super Late Model race worth $20,000 at the Charlotte Dirt Track outside the Superspeedway. Overton lead all but the first two laps finishing ahead of New York's Tim McCreadie. Chickamauga's Dale McDowell was 4th overall. Super Late Models invade Sweetwater's I-75 Raceway between Knoxville and Chattanooga Tuesday night for a $4,053 Southern Nationals special event after Monday night's stop in Bulls Gap, TN.
Chattanooga's Ronnie Johnson (Simpson Racing Products) swept the weekend of Topless Outlaw Late Model Bandits Sunday night also at the Charlotte Dirt Track.
The win, worth $10,000 followed his Saturday night victory worth $3,000. It was also Johnson's 4th consecutive Topless Outlaw Late Model victory. Blue Ridge's Seth Wimpey won the $2,500 Red Clay 602/Sportsman series feature, inheriting the victory via a disqualification after the race was over. Jason Welshan of Maryville led the first 22 laps of the Crate Late Model feature, but rain shortened the event handing the victory to Gaffney, SC racer Dillon Brown.
