Drayden Thomas came off the bench to give the Flames a big lift in Saturday's win over Montevallo.
Five Flames scored in double digits in a complete team win on Saturday afternoon in Walker Arena against the University of Montevallo Falcons.
It was a back-and-forth start as the Flames and Falcons found themselves tied up three times in the first eight minutes. After being knotted up at 19 each, the Flames found their stride, took the lead, and never looked back.
"The last ten minutes of the first half were really good," said Lee head coach Bubba Smith. "We traded baskets early, our guys said that's not good enough and then were able to flip the switch and change the game."
The Flames scored 31 points off the bench, including 11 from junior Drayden Thomas and 13 from GSC Freshman of the Week PJ Smith.
Senior Quay Kennedy put 15 points on the board before halftime, and finished the game with 17 points. Rounding out the double digit scorers were Jayce Willingham and Michael McGuirk, who added 11 and 14 respectively.
"We have a team that's always ready, and our bench has been really good this year," said Smith. "They've had great weeks at practice, prepared well, and stayed really focused."
The Flames had 16 assists and 45 rebounds compared to the Falcons 14 assists and 28 rebounds. Both teams finished with nine steals. Braxton Bertolette led the Falcons with 17 points.
The Flames head to Mississippi this week to continue GSC play as they face Mississippi College on Thursday and Delta State University on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. Thursday night.
