There is a new mural being painted on the side of Wimpies Country Restaurant, 9826 Dayton Pike, in Soddy Daisy. As part of Keep Soddy Daisy Beautiful's effort to improve the community, local artist Mary Tomas is creating the first public work of art, a mural, in Soddy Daisy. A grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission and Arts Build is partially funding the mural.
Terry Williamson, mural project manager said, ”It takes a village to plan and implement a project of this magnitude. We are so excited about bringing this beautiful public art to the Soddy Daisy community.
"We would like to thank our professional artist, Mary Tomas, our many volunteer painters, and our many donors and sponsors as well as Floyd Hardware, which provided numerous supplies for the project, as well as David and Pam Smith from Wimpies Country Restaurant, who provided our wall canvas.
"Our hope is that this artwork will be enjoyed by Soddy Daisy residents and visitors for many years to come. Since the mural location is near Poe's Tavern, Scramble Alley, and City Hall, we expect it to serve as a hub of activity in the area. In the near future, we plan to host a grand unveiling and thank all participants.”
Ms. Tomas said, "My husband and I moved to Soddy Daisy in 2020 after owning a successful contemporary art gallery in Dallas, Tx. I entered the mural contest by a request from a dear friend who has lived here all of her life... the mural reflects my first impression of Soddy Daisy... A Happy Place!
"My husband Alberto contributed so much to the success of this project as well as the many friends we have who were all eager to contribute. We love our new town."
