Bobby Calhoun
Bobby Calhoun, 77, of Destin, FL, was called home by the Lord on Friday, October 21, 2022, with his family by his bedside, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Bob was born on Dec. 29, 1944, to Ralph and Clara Calhoun in Elkhorn, WV. He grew up in South Pittsburgh, Tn., and joined the military in 1963.
After serving 14 months in Korea, he married Evelyn Faye Rector in 1965. After they married, they were transferred to Germany and in 1967 Bob was deployed to fight in the Vietnam War. He served four tours of duty before retiring from the U.S. Army and National Guard in 1989 as Sergeant First Class.
The couple had two children, Tammy Louise and Tina Michelle.
After retiring from the military, Bob became a boilermaker for the TVA and worked at the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant in Hollywood, AL, where he retired.
During Bob’s military service, he received numerous metals including the Purple Heart. He also received an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Northeast Alabama State Junior College.
Bob was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Tina Michelle Shriver and is survived by his wife, Evelyn Faye and his daughter, Tammy Baer. Bob has eight grandchildren, Lauren, Michelle, Jessica, Destiny, Joseph, Christina, Samuel and Kaitlyn. He has eight great-grandchildren.
Bob had a passion for deep sea fishing, hunting and playing dominos.
Bobby Calhoun never met a stranger. He was a giver with a soft heart for people in need. Bob overcame any adversity with strength and dignity. He was a solider at heart, served our country wholeheartedly and unfortunately saw unimaginable tragedy in Vietnam. His love for his family was unwavering.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. CST on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the funeral home chapel of Rogers Funeral Home of South Pittsburg with Ray Rector officiating.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 1-3 p.m. (CST) at Rogers Funeral Home of South Pittsburg prior to the funeral service in the funeral home chapel.
Mr. Calhoun will be laid to rest at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 12 p.m. CST with military honors.
