Cynthia D. Chapel
Cynthia D. Chapel, 67, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025.
Born on January 4, 1958, in Chattanooga to Minnie and Howard Chapel. Cynthia was a proud graduate of Chattanooga City High School, Class of 1976, and went on to earn her degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1981.
Cynthia devoted more than 20 years to a meaningful career in social work at the Hamilton County Health Department, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and dedication. A lifelong member of New Horizon Baptist Church, she was active in the choir, contributed her time to the Women’s Ministry, and served faithfully in the culinary ministry. Cynthia was also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Above all, Cynthia was a devoted mother, grandmother, and steadfast servant of Christ. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family and faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and Howard Chapel; and her son, Howard LeSure.
She is survived by her two daughters, Chappell (Jeremy) Finch and Krystain (Nicholas) Bryant-Torrence; her beloved grandchild, Malachi Torrence; her nine younger siblings: Regina Browdley, Vernessia (Reginald) Lattimore, Tojuana (Kirk) Delk, Forrestine Bryant, Brenda Jackson, Reginald Browdley, Robert Butt, Vincent Roebuck, and John (Delores) Roebuck, Jr.
Public visitation will begin at 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the funeral home.
Friends and family are invited to share in the memorial celebration of her life on Saturday, May 3, at noon at New Horizon Baptist Church, at 2007 East 27th Street.
