Susan Lumpkin

Susan Chandler Lumpkin always envisioned herself a little girl, holding flowers and running through the heavenly gates into Jesus’s arms. This was realized October 6, 2022, after a peaceful night's sleep, her battle with cancer over.

She was born July 6, 1950, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital to proud parents Dan and Janell Chandler. Brother Jeff came three years later. She was raised in First Baptist Church of Dalton, where her mother was a Kindergarten teacher and her father a Deacon. In 1975 she was married in that church to William H. Lumpkin. Susan was honored as the Catamount Homecoming Queen in 1968, and as a cheerleader she helped Dalton High capture their only football state championship. She attended LaGrange College and The University of Georgia. Susan’s first job was a teacher at Stone Mountain School. After marrying Dr. Bill Lumpkin to her delight, she raised David Lee and Jane Elizabeth. She was a kind and loving wife and mother who will be greatly missed. Susan embraced a wonderful sister-in-law when her brother Jeff married, Donna Morea of New York City. Next came two grandchildren, Julia and Will Lumpkin. She was a wonderful mother-in-law to Caroline Gillis Lumpkin who she loved deeply. She was also a devoted grandmother and was the number one fan of Will and Julia. Susan was a devoted Christian lady who read the Bible and devotional books daily.

Thank you to all the friends, family and church members at ChristChurch for the love and support during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Paula, Amber, Cindy and the Community Hospice organization along with caregivers Arriana and Annette for all the care and comfort.

Services for Susan will be held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at ChristChurch Presbyterian with Rev. Eric Geil officiating. The Family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
