McKamey Animal Center Hosts Memorial Event For Beloved Volunteer Nov. 5

  • Friday, November 4, 2022

McKamey Animal Center is hosting a small memorial celebration this Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon to recognize the contributions and lasting legacy of late volunteer, John Williams.

Mr. Williams unexpectedly passed away in July 2020, during the height of the covid-19 pandemic at 82 years old.

"John was a devoted and passionate volunteer of McKamey Animal Center from the time the Center opened. His love of animals and devotion to helping enrich the lives of the big dogs at MAC will be remembered forever," officials said.

To honor his legacy, McKamey Animal Center will be hosting a ribbon cutting event to celebrate a small expansion of their behavior and enrichment program. The Center plans to unveil a lure course for the dogs at MAC to utilize on a daily basis. A lure course is a mechanized, white plastic lure that simulates the unpredictability of chasing live prey to encourage dogs to run and play. A similar lure course was enjoyed by many of the attendees at MAC’s Paw Palooza event in Coolidge Park earlier this year.

“John loved nothing more than to watch the big dogs play,” said Lauren Mann, director of advancement. “When we shared this surprise with his family, they were thrilled and said they knew he was smiling down from heaven. This will be incredibly beneficial to the dogs in our care as we continue to navigate our capacity crisis and look for new innovative ways to help de-stress our shelter animals.”

The Center will provide light refreshments to those who attend, but do ask that you RSVP by emailing donorsupport@mckameyanimalcenter.org.
