The Greater Chattanooga Navy League Council sponsored the Navy military movie, “Devotion,” at the AMC 18 Multiplex for their adopted youth programs: Howard High School’s NJROTC program, the Tullahoma MJROTC program, and the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Chattanooga Division. Also in attendance were Navy League members and other military personnel.
The movie “Devotion” is about a pair of U.S. Navy pilots in the Korean War who crash landed in North Korea, one due to enemy fire, and the other by choice to save his trapped wingman behind the lines during the ill-fated Chosin reservoir campaign. "The bond between Tom Hudner and Jesse Brown was so strong that Hudner would risk his own life by landing his Corsair next to the crashed and pinned Brown to try to get him out of his airplane. There was going to be no way out for either of them unless a rescue helicopter could get in deep behind the lines. Helicopters were in their infancy in those early days of helo aviation," officials said.
After the movie was finished, Navy League member Willard Rice, Jr., stood up and spoke on how he met Medal of Honor Recipient Tom Hudner many times while he was stationed in Boston. Mr. Rice spoke with sincerity in his eyes as he spoke of Mr. Hudner’s humble spirit.
"We are appreciative of our members in supporting this outing for our youth," officials said. "If you would like to learn more about the Greater Chattanooga Navy League and support our mission of supporting our Maritime Services, contact Council President David B.
