Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson announced the addition of a new K-9 to the team of deputies at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

Rudie, a Dutch Shepherd who will be two years old this month, was awarded to the Sheriff’s Office through a grant 100 percent funded by a nonprofit – Beyond the Call of Duty from Spokane Valley, Wa.

The grant supplied the canine training and boarding with an approximate value of $15,600.

Rudie and his handler, Deputy P.J. Doyle, began a rigorous six week training course in December at Custom Canine Unlimited, learning to work as a team in narcotic and evidence searches, obedience, tracking and apprehension.

Rudie and Deputy Doyle successfully completed their training in January.

Sheriff Wilson conveyed his appreciation and gratitude to Beyond the Call of Duty Chairman J.C. Shah who was instrumental in making the donation possible.
