The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will broadcast an event on Saturday, Feb. 19 at noon for children (ages three-11) focused on baptism, the Holy Ghost and the sacrament. The event will be broadcast on Gospel for Kids YouTube channel and at ChurchofJesusChrist.org, as well as other media outlets.
This event is for children everywhere, including the greater Chattanooga area. Parents and teachers are also invited to participate. The event will be available in Spanish, American Sign Language (ASL), French, German, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Cantonese and English.
The children’s organization of the Church is known as Primary.
The Primary General Presidency, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, is made up of a president and two counselors. Camille Johnson is president, and Susan H. Porter and Amy A. Wright are first and second counselors, respectively. Under the direction of the First Presidency, they teach and meet with Primary leaders throughout the world.
Local primaries and primary presidencies operate in every stake, ward and branch (geographic regions) across the globe. In the Chattanooga stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there are 13 primary organizations and about 484 primary children and 108 primary teachers. Leneda Jo Laing is the Chattanooga stake primary president, and Kathleen Patricia Daggs and Mary Bess Young are first and second counselors, respectively, with Jayme Lynn Hodges as stake primary secretary.
According to officials, the purpose of Primary is to help children come to know Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost so that they can “progress along the covenant path as they meet life’s challenges.” As recorded in Isaiah, “All thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children” (Isaiah 54:13).
This year, Primary children are studying from the Old Testament. The Old Testament, as noted, “predicted and prophesied of the coming of the Savior, His life and Atonement.”
Given the importance of the Old Testament's message, the Church is offering free Old Testament resources, including stories and lessons for children, at https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/old-testament-stories-2022?lang=eng and https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/come-follow-me-for-primary-old-testament-2022?lang=eng.
"These resources help children come to know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us. They know us by name. So, please mark your calendar for Saturday, Feb. 19 at noon for the worldwide broadcast celebrating the great love They have for the children of the world," officials said.
