Betty Louise (Hyde) Lane, 88, passed away quietly at her home on August 9, 2022, after  waging a valiant and courageous battle against Triple Negative breast cancer for the last five years.

Although she was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, she grew up in the country in Ooltewah where she graduated from high school in 1952.

Always hard working and independent, Betty worked in various administrative positions for many years before eventually retiring from the Central Office of the Chattanooga School System where she served as an Administrative Assistant for over 30 years.

Betty was a faithful member at St. Andrews United Methodist Church for over 50 years.  While singing in the choir she met, sang duets with, and later married her late husband of 23 years, Jack F. Lane.  Shortly before the closing of St. Andrews, Betty and Jack moved their membership to Jones Memorial United Methodist Church and most recently Betty had been attending St. Elmo United Methodist Church.

Constantly being complimented for her youthful looks, Betty, who was also an avid reader, was active to the end.  In her younger days she was a tireless water skier and more recently could be found working in her yard on her numerous flower and rose gardens.  She completely restored the interior and woodwork of her beloved home to near museum quality.  Prior to the passing of her husband, Betty and Jack would perform marionette shows entertaining countless residents at numerous health care facilities in the Chattanooga area.  Besides singing, Betty was musically talented and loved to play the Mountain Dulcimer.  She was a member of the local Dulcimers and Accompaniment Group which also performs at numerous health care facilities and churches.

In addition to her late husband Jack F. Lane, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, George and  Elga (Granny) Johnson Hyde, two brothers William (Bill) Hyde, Warren (Bud) Hyde, sisters Eva Hyde Filkins, Kathleen Hyde Wallace and brother-in-law Phillip Mishalanie.

Betty touched many lives in her lifetime.  She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law Carmen and Wayne McCoy, Chattanooga; two sisters, Jeanette Hyde Higgins, Chattanooga; Genevie Hyde Mishalanie, Birmingham, Alabama; and a multitude of nieces and nephews who all loved Aunt Betty.  Also surviving are her two beloved rescue cats, Izzie and Annie, who provided great comfort, purpose, and companionship to Betty.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. John McCravey, Dr. Frank Kimsey, Dr. Alvaro Valle, PA Brittany Cannon, the staff at Tennessee Oncology, and the staff at Erlanger Cancer Radiation Center, all who helped Betty wage her battle against cancer.  In addition, the family would also like to thank the staff at Hearth Hospice who helped Betty in her heavenly transition.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests making contributions to the Breast Cancer Organization of your choice, St. Elmo United Methodist Church or The Gideons.
