Mary Jo West, 90, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, formerly of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022.

Mrs. West was born in Soddy, Tennessee on December 19, 1931, the daughter of Clarence Elliott and Grace Varner Elliott. She was a 1949 graduate of Soddy Daisy High School, attended the University of Chattanooga, and was a graduate of the School of Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Chattanooga City School.

Mrs. West had a long career at Erlanger Medical Center which also included the Miller Eye Center and the Miller Eye Clinic. She was a member of Ooltewah United Methodist Church. One of Mary Jo’s favorite hobbies was amateur photography. She enjoyed taking photos of her family and friends at events, and she photographed the construction of the Coolidge Park Antique Carousel from the beginning to completion. After Mrs. West’s retirement from Erlanger Medical Center, she became a volunteer at the carousel where she met many new friends, and loved the interaction with everyone she came in contact with there. Mrs. West was an avid walker early mornings on the Walnut Street Bridge where she photographed the most beautiful scenes during her walks.

Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Sneed (Larry) of Ooltewah; son Chuck West of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Sherri Sneed Millard of Ooltewah, Wendy Sneed Dotson (Jimmy) of Georgetown, Matt West of Knoxville and Kate West of Knoxville; five great grandchildren, Emma Jackson of Chattanooga, Luke Dotson and Lily Dotson of Georgetown, Maddie Millard and Jack Millard of Ooltewah, and brother, Gene Elliott.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for the compassionate care, most especially to Lora, her nurse.
