Jerry L. Smith, 82, of Hixson, passed away in a local hospital on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, with his wife and family by his side.

Jerry was loved by his family for his devotion as a husband, father, and grandfather. Family and friends alike remember his strong character and his witty sense of humor. Jerry was born on Dec. 27, 1940, in Blue Diamond, Ky. Jerry was a credit manager in the Chattanooga area and Southeast region for over 30 years with Central Soya and ADM. He retired from Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). Jerry was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan. He played basketball and football, wrestled, and ran track for South Pittsburg High School and wrestled for the University of the South. He also attended UT and loved watching the Tennessee Vols.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Doris Smith, and brother John Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maxine Smith; son, Lynn (Cindy) Smith; daughter, Jan (Todd) Noe; granddaughters Shelby Noe and Savannah Noe; brother Gray (Linda) Smith of Livingston, Tn.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Memorial Hixson for their care and support during his last days.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Fred Steelman and the Rev. Bill Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
