Better known as Pat, Glenda Fay Talley Wells, 86, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1936, to Bessie Mae McCallie Talley and Jesse Bryan Talley. Until her declining health made it necessary for her to require nursing home care, she lived her entire life in the same small neighborhood in East Chattanooga near the Watering Trough. Her favorite title was Granny.

Pat is survived by her sons, Rick Wells and Ron Wells (Gina); four grandsons, Nathan, Shane, Bryan and Aaron; thirteen grandchildren, including her youngest great-granddaughter, Talley (who was named in her honor); four sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Randy (who died as an infant), her husband, A.G. “Doc” Wells (who passed away in 2017), her parents, two sisters, and five brothers.

Persuaded by a neighbor who worked there, she took a job in the office at Mayfield Dairy Farms and ended up staying more than 30 years. She retired in 2001, only to be persuaded by another neighbor to take a seasonal job at H & R Block, where she worked until she was well into her 70s.

Pat was a Christian, having accepted Christ in 1968. She was a member of Silvercrest Baptist Church ever since.

Her sons and grandson will serve as her pallbearers. Margie, Loretta, Hattie (now deceased), Chunda, LaQyhia, Miranda, Charlette, Cassandra, Vivian and Tonita will be honorary pallbearers. They are the women who sat with and took care of Pat before she went into the nursing home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center of Collegedale, and especially Soddy Daisy Health Care, for their attention to Pat over the past two years.

Finally, the family would like to thank longtime neighbors, David and Theresa McDaniel, Freddy and Freida Carter, and Faye Wells, all of whom she loved as if they were her own children.

She will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 6, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home at Highway 58. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Randy Peterson officiating.

Please share your memories and express condolences at www.turnerfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are by Turner Funeral Home, Highway 58 Chapel, 423 622-3171.
