World War II Veteran And Golden Glove Boxer Lived To 100

Raymond D. Chambers, 100, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

He was born on May 4, 1923, in Chattanooga to the late Ulysses and Pearl Chambers. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Emma Chambers; sons, Wade Chambers and Gerald Chambers; two brothers and twin sisters; a grandson, Shane Daniels.

He loved the Lord and was a member of a local church. Mr. Chambers was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a golden glove boxer. He was a member of the Red Bank/North Chattanooga Lions Club.

Survivors include daughters, Wanda (Michael) Whitener, Mary Sue Chambers and Virginia Jo Chambers; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; his closest friend, Jim Sadler; companion, Barbara Painter and family.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the North Chapel with Reverend Don Glenn officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
