Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a special 30-minute ranger-led program on Friday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. highlighting the restoration work currently being done at the Chickamauga Battlefield on the 31st Indiana Infantry’s regimental monument, located on Battleline Road. Staff from Northern Stone Carving, who is conducting the restoration work, will be on hand as well.
Participants should consider bringing a folding chair and dress accordingly for the weather.
Officials said, "The 31st Indiana Infantry was raised in Terre Haute, In., in September 1861, but by September 1863, its members were battle hardened veterans.
At Chickamauga, they once again proved their mettle. Today, their monument stands as a testimony to their efforts to help preserve the Union. Join us for this special program to hear the story of the men of the 31st Indiana, their role during the Battle of Chickamauga, their effort to be remembered through their monument, and the work presently being done to restore their monument for future generations."
