Donald “Don” Edward Womack, 97, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at his residence.

He was born October 31, 1925 in Chattanooga to the late Robert P. and Nettie Walling Womack.

He was a United States Army/Air Force veteran serving during WWII where he was stationed in Italy. He was a gunner on a B-24 lower turret. He flew in combat at age eighteen. Don was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion.

He was retired from the Chattanooga Times/Free Press after 50 years of service. He was member of Hickory Valley Community Church.

His son, Clayton Womack, two brothers, Dale Womack and Sam Womack, and two sisters Ruth Caulfield and Mildred Moxley preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Joyce Keeney Womack; sister, Martha Neff of East Ridge; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 5, from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Rev. Duke Stone and Rev. Sam Clements officiating.

Interment will be on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South, 325 Greens Lake Road, Rossville, Ga. 30741 with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hickory Valley Community Church, 2201 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421; or Hearth Hospice, 513 Georgia Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.
