Chattanooga Broadcaster Johnny Eagle has been notified he has been elected by the membership to the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame, Career Class of 2023.

The ceremony will take place Saturday, July 29, at the Mulehouse in Columbia, Tn.

Johnny Eagle began his radio career in 1959 at KIKI in Honolulu while serving in the United States Air Force.

In 1960, to further his career in radio, Johnny attended the Keegan Technical Institute in Memphis.

After graduation he worked at WFPA in Fort Payne, Ala.

Johnny came to WFLI radio in Chattanooga in 1961 from WFPA, where he did mornings. He started at WFLI doing the afternoon drive.

Johnny was associated with the WFLI group for almost 30 years.

While at WFLI, he served as a disc jockey, program director, sales manager, station manager and as a managing partner.

Johnny was the producer of all the WFLI “Jet Fli” spectaculars beginning in 1965 through 1972, which featured some of the nation’s top rock and roll singers.

Johnny worked for a time at WDXY in Sumter, S.C.

He served as sales manager at WDXI in Jackson, Tn., in 1974.

In 1982, he took a dark small station, WYXQ, back on the air and, in less than a year, secured a buyer.

Johnny was instrumental in helping put a group together to purchase WJTT in 1986 and served as managing partner until 1991.

At that time he began serving as general manager at WSGC in Ringgold, Ga.

From 1993-2005, he operated Eagle Barter Exchange successfully until he sold the business.

Johnny has delivered “Meals on Wheels” for more than 12 years and has been a faithful volunteer at Memorial Hospital for over three years.

Johnny Eagle, at the age of 83, serves as president of the National Top 40 Radio Museum.

His good friend, Ben Cagle, was chosen to inform Mr. Eagle that he was being inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame. Mr. Eagle said he was surprised but humbled to be honored by Tennessee broadcasters.
