Mary “Wanda” Bivens, 80, of Benton, departed this life peacefully on May 19, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 26, 1942 in Tellico Plains to the late Kenneth L. and Lima Britton McCarter. She was born and raised in Ball Play community in Monroe County. Wanda was of the Baptist faith; she loved the Lord and lived her life with the desire to please Him. She also loved her family, friends and enjoyed her years as a housewife and mother.
Wanda’s career was shortened by illness at the age of 47, she previously worked as a CNA at Bradley Health & Retirement Center and enjoyed taking care of all the patients she encountered. Just like her mother, she had the God-given gift to have compassion in taking care of others.
In addition to her parents, Kenneth L. and Lima Britton McCarter, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus J. Bivens, whom she loved deeply; and sister, Etta Lee Bivens.
Left to cherish the many memories include her beloved children, Mitchell (Regina) Bivens, of Cleveland, Cheryl (Charlie) Rider, of Cleveland, Randall (Karen) Bivens, of Ringgold, and Donna (Richard) Sudderth, of Nashville; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Jimmy McCarter, of Tellico Plains. Several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 22 at Benton Memorial Gardens.
