Barbara Helen Roberts Crox, 77, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

She was a native of McMinn County, the daughter of the late Ernie Gilbert and Stella Lee Colloms Roberts. She was also predeceased by brothers, Gilbert Roberts, Gordon Roberts and Gary Roberts and sister, Billye Roberts Pirkle.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Walter L. Crox; daughter and son-in-law, Bambi Crox (Steve) Johns; son and daughter-in-law, Walter L. (Cathy) Crox, Jr. ; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Crox (Barry) Evans; son, Ben M. “Mac” Crox, III; daughter, Monica Crox; sisters and brothers-in-law, Becky and Phil Wells, Sharon Roberts and brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Norma Roberts; brother-in-law, Doug Pirkle; grandchildren and spouses are Hunter and Kelsey Johns, Trevor and Hillary Johns, Tyler Lee, Ben M. Crox IV, Macy Crox and Brenley Evans and a great-grandson, Bode Johns with many nieces and nephews.

She was one of the first licensed in Tennessee Dental Assisting in Intraoral Assisting and Dental Radiography. She received an associate in arts degree with academic honors from Milwaukee Area Technical College and received a Certificate of Commendation for Academic Achievement from Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Fraternity there. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Dental Assisting. She studied funeral service both at M. A. T. C. and Fayetteville Technical Community College. She was an instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College where she taught courses to students in dental assisting and dental hygiene. She was licensed as a funeral director in North Carolina in 1974 and is also licensed in Tennessee. She managed funeral pre-arrangement programs in North Carolina, Mississippi and Tennessee. She and her husband founded Covenant Funeral Service, in Chattanooga, in 1998. Barbara was a CFSP (Certified Funeral Service Practitioner), an earned designation, a 50 plus member of the Order of Eastern Star and currently a member of Harmony Chapter No. 143, Asebi Court, Ladies Oriental Shrine and the Ocoee Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 21, from 5-8 p.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Father Joel Huffstetler will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the church on Thursday, May 22. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery.
