Isaac Eugene Jones, Sr., age 95, was born on Sept. 26, 1927, in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Joseph Benjamin Jones and Lula Overton Jones, He departed into the eternal hope of Jesus Christ at home in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Knoxville College. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge he worked for American Airlines at the McGhee Tyson Airport, Knoxville. He also served as a dedicated employee for TVA and retired after over 30 years of service.
From his union in holy matrimony (49 years) to his beloved wife, the late Dorothy Andrews Jones, were born four sons (Isaac, Jr., Alan, Gregory, and Terrence) and one daughter (Tina).
He was a faithful member, officer, and cofounder of Washington Hills United Methodist Church, Chattanooga. He sang bass to God’s glory in the church choir as well as in the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African American Song. He was a freelance photographer who took thousands of photos for family, weddings, special events, etc. His name means “Laughter” and he was truly a jovial soul radiating kindness, love, and wise guidance for his offspring, family, and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy A. Jones; parents, Joseph Benjamin Jones and Lula Overton Jones; two sons, Gregory Earl Jones and Terrence Lee Jones; sisters, Helen Jones, Hattie Rice, Gwendolyn Jones, and Katheryn Patton; brothers, Austin Jones and J. B. Jones.
Leaving to cherish his memory are one daughter, Tina D. Jones of Chattanooga, TN; two sons, Isaac Jones, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA and Minister Alan (Joyce) Jones of Knoxville, TN; a dedicated nephew, Cedric (Elizabeth) Winston; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Jones; brother-in-law, David (Ruth Ann) Andrews; sisters-in-law, Gloria Andrews, Patricia (Eugene) Thomas, and Edna Andrews; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Homegoing Service will be Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 3921 Murray Hills Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416, with Rev. Walter Cross, eulogist and Pastor Terryl James, officiant.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Interment; Chattanooga National Cemetery.
