Cleveland State Volleyball Loses In Three To Bryan JV

  • Thursday, September 21, 2023
Cleveland State volleyball played a match for just the second time on their home court this season, but couldn't bring home a win this evening.

The Cougars (1-9, 0-3) lost for the second time this year to the Bryan College junior varsity team, this time in straight sets 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19.

"We had a great passing night," head coach Alizabeth Atnip said.  "Just dug one too many holes to turn it into a win tonight."

Ella Johnson led the team with 21 assists in the match while Ryleigh McGinnis added another 15.

Libero Taylor Hancock helped keep each set close with 30 digs and Alyssa Cate played well offensively with 13 kills.

"Taylor did phenomenal with 30 digs," Atnip said.  "And Alyssa did great at the net."

Cleveland State is on a six game losing streak and is about halfway through their season.  Six of their final nine games, other than a tournament at Snead State, will be at home.

The Cougars look to snap their skid and earn their first home victory in another home non-conference match this Monday hosting Covenant College.  Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
