Nettie Ruth Porter
Nettie Ruth Porter, 78, passed away on September 11, 2023, at a local hospital in Chattanooga.
She was born on September 14, 1944. Nettie Ruth attended Howard High School.
Nettie Ruth was a real sweetheart as well as a comedian that kept everyone laughing. Her favorite saying was “if you find a sucker, lick it.” She would also put you in your place at the same time. She loved saying, “You got the right string, but the wrong yo-yo.”
You couldn't help but love her and her personality. Family is what she believed in. Never once did she complain while taking care of her mother and children. Mama Nettie dedicated 49 years working at Nu Minit Car Wash. She also worked at Mary's Lounge where she met many people who became extended family.
She will truly be missed.
Nettie Ruth was predeceased by her mother, Mozelle Porter; brother, James Porter; sister, Minnie L. Paris.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, two sons, Michael Porter (Carmella) and Reginald Hemphill (Patrice); one daughter, Valerie Ratliff (Dexter); one brother, George Houston; cousin, James Sturkey; first granddaughter, Shaniqua Jordan; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special friend of 57 years, Virginia Butts; her two fur grandbabies, Alex and Coco.
Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.
An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, in the chapel of the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
