Gary Shaw

Gary Shaw was born on the February 9, 1943, in Jasper, Alabama, to Pauline and Glenn Olen Shaw.

Upon graduating from Satsuma High School in 1961, Gary conferred degrees in Electrical and Industrial Engineering from Auburn University. He later would go on to achieve a Masters in Business from University of South Alabama. Gary proudly served his country as a commissioned officer in the Army National Guard and reservist from 1967-1977.

Academic accolades in tow, Gary embarked on a career long journey in various capacities with International Paper Company (IP). Starting in the paper mill at Moss Point, MS, Gary soon was offered a project management position in 1977 that transferred he and his family to Connecticut where he commuted into the corporate offices in Lower Manhattan for nearly a decade. In 1987, IP moved many families, including Gary’s to Memphis, Tn. This final chapter of his career would span two more decades. Gary truly embraced this time in his life. With his seasoned business acumen, Gary travelled the world as a team leader and was blessed to enjoy one of his other true loves…food. Sampling international cuisines and culinary traditions all over Europe and South America became a definite high point for him.

Gary was an engineer through and through….always analyzing and solving complex problems. He was a dedicated provider and never missed an opportunity to help his children and grandchildren with any of the complexities that they faced in life.

Gary retired from his career in 2009 upon which he enjoyed many years between residences in Ringgold and Spanish Fort. Al. Gary also enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, woodworking and fishing. He absolutely loved watching the intricacies of nature and ecosystems, especially those pertaining to birds of prey.

Gary passed peacefully on January 11, 2024 due to complications of ALS.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith Goldman Shaw, his sister Pamela Shaw Moore and his three sons, Nathan (52), Taylor (49), and Stephen (47).

A memorial service will be held Jan. 27, at Eastern Shore Presbyterian Church, 320 Presbyterian Dr., Fairhope, Al. 36532, with a 1 p.m. visitation and a 2 p.m. service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Foundation be considered
