Scotty McCreery Talks New Album And Writing Music Before His Feb. 3 Show In Chattanooga

  • Tuesday, January 30, 2024
Recent Grand Ole Opry Invitee and Country Music Artist Scotty McCreery will play a live concert at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium in downtown Chattanooga this Saturday evening.

Mr. McCreery released and secured five #1 singles at country radio in a row from 2017–2021, with hits, “Five More Minutes,” “This Is It,” “In Between,” “You Time,” and “Damn Strait,” which Mr. McCreery admits is his favorite he’s ever recorded to date.

With a traditional country sound of 90’s and early 2000’s, Mr.
McCreery succeeded by writing and producing exceptional traditional country songs that garnered those positions without experimenting in the current trends of hip-hop backbeats or grungy guitar songs that are predominate in country radio today and may have reached their peak.

With new music on the horizon in 2024, and presumably the first single (Cab In A Solo) sitting at #16 off his yet-to-be-released upcoming album, Mr. McCreery admits 2023 will be a hard year to beat with his Grand Ole Opry invitation completing the year for him.

“2023 was the best year of my life. Being asked to join [the Grand Ole Opry] was probably the biggest thing to ever happen in my career, in my eyes, with it being so important to country music for so long, and people know me and know how much I love the traditional stuff, so to have a seat at that table means the world to me,” said Mr. McCreery.

Like the title of his latest single, Mr. McCreery will include Chattanooga on the “Cab In A Solo Tour,” which runs through early August, and fans of the country singer might be surprised to see some different stuff at the Chattanooga show according to Mr. McCreery.

“For those who have seen us before, we’re doing something different and we’re going with a lot of new music on this tour. We’ll play the hits that have been on radio over the years, but we’re going to be playing the new album and letting everyone hear it even before it comes out,” he said.

If the new album follows the sound qualities of “Cab in a Solo,” the new music could be Mr. McCreery’s most traditional country album to date.

Mr. McCreery admits it’s one of his favorite songs on the new album.

“It’s a throwback and sounds like the music I grew up on, but I took a few buddies of mine from Nashville up to the mountains of North Carolina, and we sat around the fire for a few days with our guitars writing, and 'Cab in a Solo' is one that popped out. It just takes me back to songs I grew up with and I loved it instantly, and I’m glad we got it out there as a single because it’s reflective of what the album will be like.”

Mr. McCreery admits that after winning American Idol at such a young age, he didn’t participate in the writing process for his first album, but he co-wrote “See You Tonight,” which broke into the top 10 at country radio and admits that writing songs is his favorite part of being an artist today.

“I’ve got my core 5-10 group of writers together now that I will sit down with and write for every album, and I’ve always been of the mindset that more heads are better than one when it comes to songwriting, and maybe others are thinking of something that fits with what I got, and I had not thought of that day,” he said.
