Mary Beth Sloan Gravitt, 88, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on December 9, 2024.

She was born in Soddy on July 8, 1936, to Gladstone Sloan and Euna Bell Dodd. She graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1954.

She was employed with Sliger, Knowles & Holland, and Signal Knitting Mills before working at TVA where she later retired.

She was married to Ray Gravitt, the love of her life, for 55 years until his death in 2007.

Mary attended Red Bank Baptist Church and was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Ladies Oriental Shriners of North America and Alhambra Shrine Ladies Helping Hands. She loved ballroom dancing and the friendships she made. Mary’s greatest joy was her family, her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Surviving are her three daughters, Sylvia (Bobby) Ward, Donna (Bobby) Morrison, Nancy (Eric) Witherspoon; five grandchildren, Jason and Neal Joyner, Mary, Samuel, and Hugh Witherspoon and one great-granddaughter, Jayla Joyner.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Bill Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 3-8 p.m. at North Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alhambra Shriners Transportation Fund, 1000 Alhambra Drive, Chattanooga Tn. 37421 or Hearth Hospice, 513 Georgia Ave., Chattanooga, 37403.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
