Christopher Joseph Downs
Christopher Joseph Downs, 63, Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born in Chattanooga and was a son of the late Melvin and Mary Dolan Downs.
Christopher graduated from Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga. He then continued his education at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, where we received his undergraduate. Christopher made the move to Johnson City where he went to ETSU and attended medical school and cardiology. After graduating, Christopher decided to stay in Johnson City where he taught cardiology at ETSU. He went on to practice at the Johnson City Medical Center and James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Christopher was co-owner of Heart Vascular Medical Practice. He loved being a doctor. Christopher was kind and compassionate to all his wonderful patients. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish.
He was an avid soccer player in his younger years. Christopher was a “foodie.” He was an amazing cook. Christopher was the co-owner of the former local restaurant, Sushi Blues. He was a music connoisseur, even owning a band called “Jugular” where he was lead singer. Christopher enjoyed traveling. He was a world traveler.
Survivors include his son, Lincoln Chrisopher Guerra Downs, Johnson City; sister, Rosemary Carswell (Kent), Little River, SC; brother, Patrick T. Downs, Chattanooga; nephew, Patrick T. Downs, Jr., Memphis; niece, Jessica P. Downs, Signal Mountain; several cousins, and many friends.
The visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, from 4-7 p.m. in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City.
The second visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 29, from 4-7 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge.
The Celebration of Life Mass will be conducted on Monday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 501 South Moore Road, East Ridge. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Christopher’s caregiver, Mary Humphreys and his former practice nurse manager, and partner in crime, Beverly Grubb.
